Last week, at a fundraising event to benefit the Contra Costa Association of REALTORS’® Helping Hands organization, four members of the RPM team gathered to cook, judge and chow down at a Charity Chili Cook-ON. The fundraising event was the very first of its kind for CCAR and featured chili recipes prepared by members of the community who competed to win in categories for Best REALTOR® Chili Team, Best Chili Affiliate Team and the People’s Choice Award. A panel of five judges, including RPM’s own George Moody, blind-sampled nearly 30 entries based on taste, texture, appearance and aroma.
Since its formation in 2004, CCAR-Helping Hands has donated to various causes to assist members of the community who have suffered hardships due to prolonged illness, an accident or other catastrophic event.
Having extensive experience and multiple wins in other Chili Cook-off competitions, George assisted in the evolution of the Charity Chili Cook-ON event with the CCAR-Helping Hands Committee and Committee Chairperson, Karen Pinkston.
“This was a wonderful team effort from the CCAR-Helping Hands Committee that took some creative work and energy to put together,” Pinkston explained. “It really caught fire fast and we had to cut off the entries at 30 teams! It was a fabulous and smart way to do some fun team-building! ”
Joining George to help, RPM Loan Advisors Sue Carlson and Adam Kosich worked on the event behind the scenes and attended to cheer on fellow RPMer Celeste Anderson who entered her chili in the contest. “This was a fun event and a great success. We’ll be back next year!” Celeste said.
George declared the event a success both for attendees and CCAR-Helping Hands. “The idea of this event was to make it a really fun competition that would bring together members of the community, local businesses and the real estate industry. The goal was to have so much fun that the fundraising part ends up being an added bonus.”
